Higher Nitec in Cyber & Network Security
My name is Jerry Yeoh, and I am currently a Year 2 student pursuing a three-year Higher Nitec in Cyber and Network Security at ITE College West. Ever since I started this course, I have been passionate about learning more about technology, networking, and cybersecurity. I enjoy understanding how computer systems work, how networks are secured, and how technology can be used to solve real-world problems. These interests have motivated me to work hard and always give my best in both my studies and leadership responsibilities.
One of the achievements I am most proud of is being selected for the Director's List as one of the Top 10% Academic Scorers during my first year of study. Receiving this recognition reminded me that hard work, consistency, and determination truly pay off. It encouraged me to continue challenging myself and striving for excellence in everything I do.
I was also honoured to receive the Howe Yoon Chong CAG Book Prize. Being recognised with this award means a lot to me because it reflects not only my academic performance but also the effort, discipline, and commitment that I have put into my studies. It has motivated me to continue learning, improving myself, and setting even higher goals for the future.
Besides academics, leadership has played a significant role in my journey at ITE. I have been entrusted to serve as the Class Chairman since the beginning of my Higher Nitec programme, and I will continue serving in this role throughout the entire three years. I am grateful for the trust that both my classmates and lecturers have placed in me. As Class Chairman, I act as a bridge between my classmates and lecturers by sharing important information, communicating feedback, helping to resolve issues, and ensuring that everyone stays informed. I also enjoy encouraging teamwork and creating a positive and supportive classroom environment where everyone feels included.
Serving as Class Chairman has helped me grow not only as a student but also as a person. It has strengthened my communication skills, confidence, sense of responsibility, and ability to work with people from different backgrounds. Through this experience, I have learned that being a leader is not about being in charge, but about serving others, listening to different perspectives, and supporting those around you whenever they need help.
Outside of my studies, I always look for opportunities to improve myself. I believe that learning does not stop in the classroom, and I enjoy developing both my technical knowledge and personal skills. Whether it is working on group projects, solving technical problems, or learning something new, I always try to approach every challenge with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
As someone who is passionate about cybersecurity, I hope to continue my education after completing my Higher Nitec and eventually build a career in the cybersecurity industry. My goal is to become a skilled cybersecurity professional who can help organisations protect their systems and data from cyber threats. At the same time, I hope to continue developing as a leader who can inspire others through integrity, humility, and perseverance.
Looking back on my journey so far, I am thankful for every opportunity that has helped me grow. Every achievement I have received is the result of hard work, support from my lecturers, encouragement from my classmates, and the guidance of my family. These experiences have shaped me into someone who values responsibility, continuous learning, and helping others. As I continue my journey, I remain committed to giving my best in everything I do and becoming not only a capable cybersecurity professional but also a person of good character who makes a positive impact on those around me.
