Yum Shoen Yih

Yum Shoen Yih is a distinguished cybersecurity practitioner who volunteered as a DDAS Nexus Advocate. He is one of the quieter but highly influential figures in Singapore's long arc of military-tech and cybersecurity evolution; transitioning from military warfare into cyber defence doctrines.
Throughout his career, Shoen Yih has played a pivotal role in strengthening Singapore’s cybersecurity posture across both defence and government sectors. He spent 3 decades at the intersection of operations and technology in the Singapore Armed Forces/Republic of Singapore Navy and later became deeply involved in national cybersecurity architecture with the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) to build a safer and more resilient cyberspace for Singapore.
He represents a uniquely Singaporean doctrine: Small-state survival through systems superiority; Civil-military fusion in cybersecurity and Pragmatic sovereignty. This is reflected in his ABCD framework: how to build sovereign or semi-sovereign cyber capability using local ecosystems and the development of strategies to help organisations defend against evolving threats. He is also a sought-after speaker who regularly shares insights at local and international cybersecurity forums.
In recognition of his significant contributions to Singapore’s cybersecurity landscape, Shoen Yih was inducted into the Hall of Fame of The Cybersecurity Award in 2025.
As a DDAS Nexus Advocate, Shoen Yih supports the mission of the Digital Defence Alliance Singapore by promoting cybersecurity awareness, sharing knowledge with industry and community audiences, and fostering greater collaboration to strengthen Singapore’s collective digital resilience.
